In 1994 it was taken over by Elizabeth and Michael Mills who formed the Anglo-Australian Trading Company Limited. After a major refurbishment programme, it re-opened its doors in July of that year as the new AUSTRALIA SHOP. At that site, it continued to grow and expand its product range, but eventually outgrew the space and a decision was taken to move into the prestigious Covent Garden area in Henrietta Street in 1998. At this point, an application was made for a liquor licence so that AUSTRALIA SHOP could stock the one and only Bundaberg Rum along with different beers from various States of Australia. It now has one of the largest ranges of interesting Australian beers, all available in-store.
Time for another move, when, due to a significant rent rise, AUSTRALIA SHOP had no choice but to find a new home. It eventually moved to its present site in Maiden Lane. This is probably its best location yet as it is perfectly positioned for customers to enjoy the convenience of central London shopping. The Head Office of the Company is also located at the Maiden Lane site.
We, the owners and staff, pride ourselves in offering a warm welcome to all our customers and are confident that we do carry one of the largest ranges of Australian foodstuffs and beers outside of Australia. We aim to ensure that most of your favourite products are on our shelves at any one time, but, occasionally, we do come across a challenge. At the moment we are endeavouring to get Australian Milo back into stock, which we had to remove as a result of the UK Health Authorities’ strict application of EU food regulations. On your behalf, we will continue to work towards having it back at the earliest possible opportunity. Not a problem, just a small hurdle to jump.
