History

Anglo Australian Trading has been successfully supplying home favourites to the Australian ex-pat community for over 16 years. Operating in the Strand and Covent Garden areas for over 35 years, Australia Shop originally started life as The Australian Gift Shop in the now defunct Canberra House, before moving to the Savoy area of the Strand.

In 1994, The Australian Gift Shop was taken over by Elizabeth and Michael Mills and the Anglo Australian Trading Company Limited and has enjoyed continued success with its customers.

In 2001, Anglo Australian Trading Company opened its doors to the NZ, Canadian and South African communities with the conception of NZ Shop , Canada Shop and South Africa Shop respectively. They have all proved successful enterprises and have afforded our customers the opportunity to diversify their tastes whilst further developing and establishing our product ranges.

About us

Michael’s background was in the airline business having worked for British Airways for over 30 years up until 2000, His experience spanned across Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Management and Airport Terminal Management. He has travelled extensively to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa and lived in Australia for a period of time while on secondment to Qantas. Since 2000 Michael has been working with Elizabeth developing and expanding the company and using his extensive experience in logistics to develop the high levels of stock availability. Michael’s main focus is to try and exceed the customers’ expectations.

Elizabeth started the company in 1993 having worked for 20 years with the Queensland Government Office in London. During her time with the Queensland Government Elizabeth made many contacts which became a valuable network when she went into the retail and wholesale business. As marketing manager in the Queensland Government Office Elizabeth gained extensive experience and knowledge about the importing of all types of goods, including foodstuffs, into the United Kingdom. There is no doubt that the years of dealing with various UK Government Agencies has contributed to the current success of the company. With her husband Michael, the Millses form a successful partnership and both work hard to ensure that they (along with their loyal staff) provide good and reliable service at all times to both their retail and wholesale customer base
